2026 Primary Election


Primary Election will be held on June 30, 2026. During the primary, voters choose which candidates will advance to the ballot for the General Election on November 3, 2026. 

Participating entities, such as school districts and special districts, will be announced in late spring. 

Primary Ballots 

  • Major Party-affiliated voters will receive a ballot for their registered party 
  • Unaffiliated voters may choose one major party’s primary ballot
    • You may only vote and return one ballot 

  • If your minor party is not participating, you will not receive a ballot

Voter Registration 

Colorado makes it easy to vote. 

  • There is no voter registration deadline 
  • You may register and vote on the same day at a Vote Center 
  • You must have lived in Colorado for at least 22 days before Election Day 

ATENTION 17-Year-Olds:

The Colorado Votes Act, which took effect in August 2019, allows 17-year-olds to vote in state and presidential primary elections as long as they will be 18 on or before the specific election date.


Important Dates & Events

February 13: Last day to affiliate with the Democratic Party or Republican Party in order to vote in the March Party Precinct Caucuses. (22 days before the precinct caucuses, contingent on precinct caucus date)

May 15: Military and Overseas ballots transmitted

June 8: Ballots mailed to all active registered voters.  Drop boxes open.

June 8: Last day for voters who are affiliated with a political party to change or withdraw their affiliation if they wish to vote in a different party’s primary election for the June 30th Primary Election. (Up to the 22nd day before the Primary Election or day after if 22nd day is a state or federal holiday)

June 22: Last day to request a replacement ballot by mail. Voters can get a replacement ballot in person at the Election Office. Please see VSPC hours below.

June 22 to June 30: Voter Service and Polling Center (VSPC) open for the
June 30th Primary Election

June 30: ELECTION DAY.   Ballots must be in possession of the Clerk & Recorder by 7:00 p.m.  POSTMARKS DO NOT COUNT. 

July 8: Last day for mail ballots cast by military and overseas electors to be received to be counted. 

July 8: Last day to cure a signature discrepancy or missing signature. 

July 10: Final Tabulation

SECURE BALLOT DROP-BOX LOCATIONS

Secure ballot drop-boxes will be available beginning June 8, 2026, and will remain open twenty-four (24) hours per day through 7:00 p.m. on June 30, 2026 (Election Day).  All drop-box locations are monitored by video surveillance.
