About the District Attorney’s Office
The District Attorney is elected by voters in three Colorado counties: Archuleta, La Plata and San Juan. These three counties comprise the Sixth Judicial District.
This District Attorney’s Office prosecutes criminal cases within the District that works closely with law enforcement agencies in all three counties.
Court information
County Court
This Court handles civil cases under $10,000, evictions, small claims, traffic citations, restraining orders, name changes and misdemeanor criminal cases.
District Court
This Court handles adoptions, divorce, child support/custody, felony criminal cases, probate, juvenile cases and adjudication of water-related claims.
Adult District Court
This Court handles criminal cases involving felony offenses committed in Archuleta County. Felony cases include offenses such as homicides, sexual assaults, robberies, indent theft and drug offenses. There are six classes of felony offenses in Colorado: Class 1 felony offenses are the most serious and Class 6 are the least serious.
Juvenile District Court
This Court handles the prosecution of offenders who are under the age of 18 who have been charged with committing a misdemeanor of felony offense.
Pagosa Springs Municipal Court
The Municipal Court is a limited jurisdiction court which hears cases that deal with traffic, misdemeanor, animal, parking and code violations within the town’s boundaries. This Court is held at 551 Hot Springs Blvd.
